This project consisted of a 67,000 sq ft concrete slab with a turned down thickened edge. The slab was prepared for placement in one day then was placed, finished, cured and saw cut the very next day. 175 cu yds per hour was placed or 7500 sq ft was completed per hour. The slab was designed with less than ½% of centerline crown to it. Positive drainage was achieved with the use of our laser screed and the 3-D profile system. Accuracy of finishing techniques was required to ensure the surface plane of the slab would be produced. The original slab design was asphalt. SCCI worked with the excavating contractor to design a slab with a higher structural number than asphalt without adding cost to the project. With extensive cost comparisons along with life cycle cost analysis the owner wisely chose concrete over asphalt.
