Len
Swederski Construction was
formed in 1985 and incorporated in
Illinois as Swederski Concrete
Construction Inc, (SCCI) in
1993. As our business grew it became
evident that to be successful in
the industry we needed to do things
better than our competition and offer
our customers and employees something
special. We have accomplished this
by providing our employees fair wages,
occupational training, a safe and
drug/alcohol free work place, company
paid health, dental and life insurance, retirement and profit sharing,
and providing them the best and most
advanced equipment available to do
their job. This in turn provides
value to our customers and has lead
to the development of long term relationships.
Our
family and community have
always been a part of our business,
as our business is integral to
our family and community. My wife
Patti and I began the business
out of our home and used a local
farm as our construction yard.
A few years later we moved into
our present location in Spring
Grove, IL.
Foundation wall
and footing construction is
precise and efficient utilizing two
16 ton telescoping boom trucks, an
extensive array of aluminum and patented
wall forming systems and total station
layout systems. Heavy industrial
and commercial work is our specialty.
SCCI has completed foundations for
some of the largest open die type
forge presses in the United States. Use
of innovative forming concepts and
modern concrete mix designs have
provided our customers with high
quality products, efficiently constructed.
Exterior
concrete paving is our specialty.
In 1999 SCCI purchased its first
Somero Laser Screed and later installed
a 3-D profiler system. With this
equipment SCCI realized an efficient
way to place exterior concrete flatwork.
Two additional 3-D laser screeds
and slip-form paving equipment have
been added to our exterior concrete
paving division. Since then
SCCI has been making great strides
in expanding the concrete parking
lot and local concrete street market
in Northern IL. and Southern WI.
With environmental issues in the
forefront today and oil prices rising,
concrete paving provides an environmentally
friendly alternative to asphalt paving,
at a reduced overall cost. SCCI
is a major player in the concrete
parking lot market and can complete
any size project in record time using
our 3-D laser screeds in combination
with our slip-form paving equipment.
A large portion of our local concrete,
street and parking lot market is
derived from converted asphalt designs
to concrete by educating the owner/user
on the benefits and life cycle costs of concrete.
Interior
flatwork and industrial floors are
constructed with quality and speed
exceeding the expectations
of owners and contractors. We have
extensive experience in steel and
synthetic fiber reinforced floors. Meeting
flatness/levelness (Ff/FL )
specifications can be accomplished
with planning. Our equipment
includes laser screeds, truss screeds,
finishing machines, riding trowels
and early entry saws (Soff-Cut) for
any demand.
Training is important
in our industry due to increased
demands on managers/supervisors,
technological advances in systems
and equipment and reduced availability
of labor coming into the construction
industry. As an American Concrete
Institute (ACI) certified finisher/instructor
and an NCCER instructor for carpentry
and concrete, Len Swederski, president of SCCI, and his
staff, have provided our crews the
training necessary to compete for
any high end job in the industry.
The percentage of our employees
that have ACI certification is
probably larger than any in the
United States. Through the Associated
Builders and Contractors (ABC),
Len has volunteered the time to
teach ACI classes and provide ACI
Certified Finisher exams for hundreds
of union and merit shop tradesman
in IL and WI within the last 10
years.
Safety is
always a priority at SCCI. We currently
employ a full time HR/Safety person.
Our investment in Safety has paid off
with hundreds of thousands of dollars
in insurance premium savings and reduced
lost time accidents over the years.
Our safety savings is returned to our
workforce by way of our profit sharing
program and through special incentives.
Our NCCI modifier has been at or below
the industry average for over a decade.
In 2003, the NCCI rate was at .72. The industry
average is set at 1.0.
Drug and
Alcohol testing was initiated
in 1993 when SCCI became one of the
pioneers in the construction industry
to implement a zero tolerance drug/alcohol
use in the workplace. An Employee
Assistance Program and services is
provided for our employees. See our
Safety page for more information
on our policies and awards.
